If it takes some misinformation to end the horrific act of infant genital mutilation, I’m kinda fine with it tbh.

Much as I feel genital mutilation is awful and should be a thing of the past this will unfortunately harm people on the way. The religious who believe circumsision is a good idea will keep doing so, but along the way women who are pregnant will have their only reasonable option for pain and fever relief stigmatised, ironically potentially increasing the rate of autism. There is some evidence that maternal fever may increase the likelihood of autism in the child, so not using paracetamol to control fever may increase the rate.

Also, never side with Nazis. If they say the sky is blue you don’t say you agree, you say that the sky is blue. They will always try to pull people in to agreeing with them and then change their opinion later and try to pull people along with them.

        That’s how they get you.

They build your trust with some truth (or at least something believable. Usually half-truths and lies-through-omission nowadays). Add in some fear. Then what you accept as truth changes.

This is why it’s so damn dangerous that Sinclair and Nexstar owns almost every goddamn local news broadcast in the country. They didn’t just buy the stations…they bought the trust that those stations had earned in the local market. That was the real asset.

Yep, and by broadcasting the same message from many sources they can create the illusion of consensus because of the ten news sources you see 8 of them agree, 1 goes insanely far past those 8, and 1 disagrees with the other 9. The fact that only one station disagrees with the rest and presents reasonable facts makes them sound like the outlier and seem likely wrong, while the insane version makes the 8 in the middle sound normal.

If this is a round about way to banning genital mutilation except for doctors reasons then I guess they can have this one.

I know a lot of folks are against circumcision, but my old boss was 78 and had to be circumcized cuz the sheath lost its elasticity and he couldn’t pee and yea that’s an old person issue but man. I’m just glad they did it when I was too young to remember. He was not a happy camper

As far as I know, people are against forced circumcision. It boils down to mutilating someone, usually a kid, preemptively for… reasons. I don’t think anyone care about medically mandated procedure.

Sure, but the same can be said about pretty much anything. If I were to get bone cancer in my left arm, I’d rather have had it amputated when I was a baby than today. Recovery always sucks.

They want to diagnose women who take Tylenol while pregnant with TDS. Previously RFK Jr said he wanted to put people with mental illness - which he claims TDS is - in camps.

They want to build camps of pregnant liberal women. Do you think they will let them keep their babies? I doubt it.

To give some perspective on why this is the case from an American, it isn’t that a bunch of parents are asking / going out of their way to get this done, it’s that the doctors almost always offer it with the justification that it’s a preventative measure against infections, and the parents generally don’t question it due to how commonplace it is already. The cultural reasons that started this haven’t been popular for decades and it’s only the medical establishment that’s keeping this going.

I guess I meant an inclusive and, meaning Jewish or US American, but it would have meant an either or situation there.

Where I live, chopping dicks is predominantly a Jewish thing, and is the butt of many Jewish jokes. Personally, I’m anti-baby-dick-chopping.

That figure absolutely staggers me. The fact that it’s so commonplace to irreversibly mutilate the genitals of a baby that has no capacity to consent to such a lifelong alteration really says something. Conservatives being up-in-arms about trans kids taking hormone blockers to prevent puberty but not about taking a scalpel to babies’ penises would be genuinely baffling if I didn’t already expect that without double standards, they’d have no standards.

Yep. Blew my mind when I learned about it, too. Unfortunately it’s not unusual or even difficult for these people to hold two completely incompatible opinions at the same time. I should add that female genital mutilation is not commonplace in the US. It doesn’t make it better, just less horrible.

It’s quite common among Christians in the u.s. Probably somehow related to Kellogg and Graham, of cereal and crackers. Those types were obsessed with preventing masturbation and pleasure.

Back in the 70s-80s many Christian Americans were circumcised because it was thought to be cleaner. Doctors would often just do it once the baby was born with little to no input from parents.
