As a friend of mine who did play it described it, it’s aggressively mediocre.
I think that’s the best description for it. People absolutely hate it, just to join the shitfest, but at the end of the day it’s just… Mediocre. And for the price and what else is out there right now, probably not worth anyone’s time, except you are a diehard wolverine fan.

Is the game bad?
It just wasn’t the game people wanted it to be, in a vacuum it’s realistically a solid gameplay experience, with some glaring caveats, and had it not come from the same developers as the Spider-Man games I don’t think it would be getting shit on nearly as much. The biggest issue is the kids gloves approach they took with the gameplay, some sections are just cut scenes that you can pretend to interact with, but outside of that the game is alright and the writing is pretty good.
It doesn’t seem like a game so much as a movie where you can optionally press buttons. The button pressing doesn’t do anything; the game plays itself.
This sounds like an exaggeration, but a Twitch streamer got up and made a cup of coffee during a big motorcycle chase segment. His character was literally bouncing off of cars and guardrails on the highway, and he still finished the chase segment successfully. Literally didn’t touch the controller at all, and still finished it.

I think there actually is a place for that kind of experience … but a AAA game you paid big money for isn’t it.

As one who had PS+ for a couple years and only bought like 3 games because I tried them on PS+: I feel that.
I never understood paying twice(Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo and ISP) to play online. All 3 companies had data breaches, so they are not spending money, or much money if they are, towards security.
I wasn’t paying to play online.
I was paying to access a library of games I didn’t own myself. If PS+ only was for playing online, I wouldn’t have had it.
I don’t own a console, I thought the ps+ was an online feature. I am used to buying games for dirt cheap on steam, or getting them for free, or emulating games.
It’s because console gamers are willing to pay it.
that’s how any modern mainstream game that i tried in the last decade feels to me :/

Is it great no. Is it entertaining to me. Yes. I’m 41 and sometimes I like a game that I can just sit and slice shit up without having to be challenged a lot. It’s relaxing sometimes. I really don’t see it much different than spider-man. Spider-man was easy as fuck too. Most people bitching haven’t played the game and parrot YouTube video critics.
When it’s much cheaper and on PlayStation plus, you’re gonna see more people saying it’s not that bad of a game.

From what I can tell, it’s not great, it’s got middling bones. But overall the themes of death and rebirth and Logan losing his way are interestingly explored. For a 12-15 hour story with gameplay that handholds you incessantly, but does have some interesting things to say occasionally, I’d say it’s a great game to grab on a mega sale.
Edit: I, like many others, haven’t played it. I’ve watched some essays about it but I have no actual playing experience

PC already has the superior X-Men Origins: Wolverine. (Although you have to get it through unofficial means)
It’s funny to think of how much better that game is than the movie they made it for. That game fucking rules.
I thought that I was the only one to think so, so it’s a relief to read this and discover that I’m probably not a sadist for enjoying the regeneration mechanics.
I also vaguely remember enjoying Wolverine’s Revenge, but the main things I truly remember about that game are the Weapon X helmet and the tracking mechanics, so it’s possible it wasn’t that great.
That’s the biggest part of what made that game so damned cool! Watching him get fucked up while still ripping and tearing and seeing it grow back was rad as hell. And it was packed with comic book X-Men lore, and you could learn a lot about Wolverine, which just makes it a really funny juxtaposition with the film. That game fully understood the assignment, and the people that made it actually liked and knew the character. The gameplay was aslo just chef’s kiss.
Edit: I played Wolverine’s Revenge and 100% don’t remember a single thing about it. Obviously a 10/10.

That’s a shame. So playstation 5 really only has what? Three true exclusive games aside from this? Saros, Astrobot, and Yotei? …and the system is basically open now.
It’s a pretty short list. And some of these aren’t released yet.
After looking at the list and such, there was genuinely only maybe 3 games on that list that would even be able to convince me to even want a PS5. And one of those 3 games is just an enhanced version of a game that came out on other platforms as well originally.
I consider Astrobot to be the best PS5 exclusive because it delivers gameplay you can’t get anywhere else. Some of the others are good games as well, but derivative.
That was one of the games that would absolutely catch my eye if I didn’t already watch a playthrough lf the whole game.
Since it’s about the gameplay and not the story, that wouldn’t be enough for me, but glad it was for you!
