It’s YouTube music, which is showing popular “podcasts” on its explore page. Must be just because it’s popular because nothing in my algo on either youtube or YouTube music would suggest this shit.

Ah yes, the Charlie Kirk “we selectively found 10 dumb people to debate and then edited out any part where they come across okay” genre.

This is basically all of media now, there is no such thing as objective media of any kind anymore, everything produced is meant to pander to some group or another.

Even if we accept the passing of the internet, we have to also understand that this is how it’s going to be always, forever. Unless social attitudes broadly change, this is just what the world is going to do with recordable content from now until eternity.

Everything you see, no matter your political ideology or attitude or values, is cultivated and selected just for you to reinforce your beliefs even if that reinforcement is inaccurate.

A few of you reading this are going to frown and downvote and roll your eyes, and to this I warn you: the more you think you’re outside of this system, or the more you think you’re invulnerable to manipulation… the more vulnerable you really are.

I can’t be the only person on here that’s fully off the algorithm/surveillance grid. It’s still possible to get caught in bubbles the old-fashioned way, I guess. I try to listen to something/someone new and weird every once in a while.

No you’re right, the only way to win the game is to not play.

As long as you’re staying aware of what you’re taking in, and you regularly think about how you’re thinking, you’ll be miles ahead of the broad swath of humanity.

At first I frowned and rolled my eyes Then I read that and thought, Hmm yeah they’re probably right I’m in my own privately curated echo chamber. But, it can’t be all that bad if that private echo chamber is all about compassion and empathy, right? Sometimes living in a bubble can be a bit healthy right? I dunno, rambling.

That’s a good point, what do we choose to feed ourselves? There’s massive industry built around people’s food diets and almost no attention paid to what our media diets are like and what they’re doing to us.

I think at the end of the day we all need to really understand how maliable our brains are and how easily we can change the way we think just because of the stuff we’re watching or listening to, and this has been an unpopular topic for a long time because it makes people worry that what they enjoy might not be good for them, but I think as long as we stay aware and keep our diet varied enough we probably will do a lot better than people who just mindlessly draw emotions from people shouting on Twitch streams all week long.

I didn’t notice that, it is an awful lot. I wonder if it’s a series of interviews recorded over days, rather than one big meeting.

It’s also possible this is just the raw video, and then there’s a bunch of “best takedowns” compilations they actually push. Like how Charlie Kirk would do live debates with inexperienced suckers.

Being a series of interviews would make sense. That’s about an hour each. Still wild to release as an episode and not a playlist.

I have not watched too many of them, but I’ll never forget the guy who handed his ass to him on the subject of same sex relationships and the bible. Actually I think that’s the only one I’ve ever watched lmao. It’s funnier when those guys run into people who can actually debate.

I found a number of really good rising streamers and progressive advocates back in the day by watching Charlie Kirk debates and probably became a lot more involved with further left politics than I would have normally if it wasn’t for Charlie Kirk.

This is mildly infuriating, it’s meant to show things people find offensive or objectionable. If you don’t want to see offensive or objectionable shit block the sub. There’s no way to remove this section on my explore tab, or even down vote or say I don’t want to see episodes like this.

Is that the show where the guy invites on OF models, then insults and humiliates them? Where the models are only going on there because so many of his listeners then subscribe to their OF?

The psychology of those incels would be fascinating to study

They enjoy insulting and humiliating these women for doing sex work, then they go ahead and pay for it

Granted that’s been the history of sex work for thousands of years, this is just one of the most direct examples of it. Wonder if it boils down to them wanting to project their own shame and guilt on the women

From what I’ve gleaned, there’s a tendency to see the sex act as shameful, but moreso for the woman. So psychologically, they’re still “owning them” in that exchange.

It’s entirely possible the camgirls that go on this channel are the kind that see their clients as marks, as well, so there’s a funny kind of symmetry to the exchange.

It always just strikes me as immaturity. People with a physiological demand for sex reaching for what they can’t have in polite society, then letting out their rage and humiliation on people lower than them on the pole, because they never learned how to process their emotions.

In my experience, having grown up in an upper-middle class neighborhood with a mixed bag of people who all went different directions…

It’s not the lack of a conscience that makes you rich. It’s the wealth that degrades your morality.

“I’m going to be an asshole in order to get rich” has not - in my experience - produced my success. I know plenty of shitheads who squandered their family fortunes and ended up doing shit work for shit pay. On the flip side, a few friends and acquaintances who did go on to be successful turned increasingly toxic and miserable as their stars climbed.

Well yeah, just being an asshole doesn’t make money. But when you see how easily people are tricked into giving away their money to unethical actors, it’s easy to see one’s own conscience as a roadblock. Like, “If I would feel comfortable scamming people, I could be rich.” But I’m not comfortable scamming people, even if it would be easy. Ergo, my conscience keeps me from making easy money.

Even when I agree with Andrew Wilson, he’s such an asshole when making his point that it makes me want to disagree. It’s like that with a lot of online debaters on the left too. They’re not concerned with political activism or convincing anyone, just want some zingers to make their opponent look bad. One step away from a “yo mama” battle.

He doesn’t even make points. He reframes the debate, moves the goalposts, and tortures definitions in such a way that his carefully worded “stance” is basically a tautology, while proving absolutely nothing. It is the most astonishing intellectual dishonesty I have ever seen.

Youtube music got weird for me, about a week or two ago. I have it as part of my YT subscription, I barely use it. I opened it the other day and they recently started pushing this obviously AI generated like… porn music. I’m not sure how else to describe it.

Such gems like “I flashed me gash & got free bread”

Yes, I did listen to one of them out of curiosity, and now it won’t stop recommending the filth even though I’ve blocked 20 of the songs and said don’t show me stuff like this.

I found myself subscribed to amazon and other channels because the skip button is right next to the subscribe button on their ads. And i have relatively no control over the recommendation system, that has been almost completely automated. Cherry on top, i get recommended alpha male crap even without watching any of the videos. The last one was “why japanese men are like this today” - examples provided were men from ww2. My guy, ww2 japanese men brought destruction to the country like no other generation. They weren’t manly, they served as sacrificeable units. If anything, that was one of the biggest generational failures. Something deeply human is the fragility and power of fear. And forcine young men to go through traumatic experiences isn’t the way. It’s not, it’s not fun. You’re not tough you’re something else.
