One more step towards the US becoming an NK clone. This is a good opportunity for Loops to advertise themselves as the anti-Tiktok.

When? I’m American and I just can’t even comprehend us attacking Canada. That said, I wouldn’t put anything past orange hitler.

Anyway, I hope you put up a fight and I hope the rest of NATO doesn’t just sit on its hands.

Have you not been paying attention? Trump tested the waters of attacking Panama, Greenland, and absorbing Canada as a “51st state”. He really wants a war SOMEWHERE so he can try to halt the next election. It has to be close and scary, or Americans won’t bat an eye. We are so used to wars elsewhere.

MAGA will 100% believe it if he says Canada is sending fentanyl over on a nuke or something and they will be excited to go to war over it.

Have you not been paying attention? Trump says a lot of bullshit. I don’t think you should be taking him at his word for anything.

I re-affirm my previous statement. I can’t even comprehend the idea of the US attacking Canada. It would be extremely stupid of him and I don’t think the people around his orbit would allow it because it would endanger all of them.

Trump would probably launch strikes on the Blue states so he can start a second Civil War if he wanted to.

When? Right after his economy starts tanking. He’s cut off a lot of his trading partners. He’s going to need money and resources fast. Canada has a lot of resources he needs, despite how hard he tries to claim otherwise.

He has threatened our annexation since his first term, although in a ‘joking’ way. This time he started the threats before he’d even been sworn in and he hasn’t stopped. He is still threatening annexation of Canada. He has not backed down. He has not apologized. He means it.

He’s a critically stupid man, but he’s an extremely dangerous one and his statements need to be taken seriously.

They already attacked Iran without official declaration of war. That orange bastard wants to get Bagram back even though the Taliban would just laugh and let the Chinese take it.

Any fascist government requires the need for constant conflict and scapegoats for which to keep itself existing to reign. This includes even threatening to invade countries with punitive military campaigns. Or punishing certain states for “disloyalty” and growling to send troops and cops to “occupy” them.

Of course not a neighbor but needs enemies to justify its existence. If he can order that, he might as well launch a strike upon Mexico.

Nazi Germany had a bad geographical location. Strong powers to the east and west, including the UK as unsinkable aircraft carrier and staging ground for invasion. The USA has none of these issues. It’s surrounded by big oceans and militarily weak neighbors. A naval invasion of the USA is basically impossible.

The USA can do whatever they want in all countries in the Americas. Not even a worldwide coalition could stop that.

The USA could invade and annex Mexico and Canada quite easily.

The USA can also afford to intervene military across the globe, get stuck in a quagmire for years, and it doesn’t endanger their control over their own country.

You see them as desperate? Above anything, I see them as oppressive.

The actions seem similar, but their intentions are very different. They’re not scared or anxious. They’re enabled, demanding, and oppressive.

So, Trump effectively nationalized TikTok, valued at $300b. He sells it to friendly oligarchs for $15b. So far, this is basically the post-USSR playbook, and how Roman Abravmovich, Alisher Usmanov, Vladimir Lisin, etc. got so rich.

But it might piss off his oligarch buddies if he drives all the users off TikTok making what seemed like a steal into something worthless instead.

That only works if people use it.

For some reason, people have stuck with Twitter. But, the users of TikTok are not the same as the users of Twitter, so who knows, maybe they won’t stick with it.

In ex-USSR that happened as something destructive, but in USA honestly it’s normal, using institutional pressure to help friendly businesses. Trump is unusual only in how grotesque he is in his position, but history saw Talleyrand.

And US sanctioned Japan just because some of its businesses couldn’t compete, which didn’t kill Japanese car industry, but hurt Japanese computer industry, and sent Japan into recession from which it didn’t quite recover.

About driving users off - that doesn’t really happen unless you intentionally break everything. VKontakte be the experiment showing this, except TG was later made based on VK makers’ experience with social stuff, and was very successful, and is now basically the most convenient messaging\social platform. When something FOSS manages to reproduce the experience of TG, then FOSS messaging and social systems stand a chance. So - some of the life moved from VK to TG, but it’s more of VK’s experience stagnating and being too complex and overloading, not of people fleeing it.

yeah, because it’s bankrolled by one billionaire now, so it doesn’t matter how badly he runs it, as long as he decides to keep it up. it could never make a single dime ever again, and he could run it for as long as he wanted because he makes vastly more than twitter costs.

back when it was public, if it had lost this many advertisers when it wasn’t profitable to start with, it might have been a very different situation for them. they had to convince investors to keep giving them money back then.
