On the plus side you don’t have to worry about retirement if you regularly consume that garbage
It’s healthy
I see it does wonders for your brain too
Curect
I’m essentially a socialist and believe in taxation and public health
However, what I despise about the Sugar Tax in the UK is that the drinks companies used it as an excuse to reformulate the vast majority of soft drinks, swapping sugar for Acuflame K and aspartame.
A small percentage of the population (but a significant number of people) taste these sweetners as bitter.
I am one of them. Basically all soda that’s been reformulated is undrinkable now to me. I’d describe the taste as a sort of soapy, chemical flavour that’s extremely bitter and artificial.
They even wrecked my national drink Irn Bru, which is basically the worst thing to happen to Scotland since Thatcher!
Only a handful of drinkable beverages remain. Coca-Cola refused to reformulate (likely a hangover from their 80s PR disaster), and you can get a few imported drinks at specialist stores at a premium price.
Unfortunately the majority of folk can’t taste the difference so we are where we are. I guarantee you, if everyone tasted this shit like we do the sales would plummet.
The loss of Irn Bru is a world tragedy, but also, kind of probably necessary sacrifice.
It’s actually still around in a weaker ‘original’ flavour that has all the sugar but is less fizzy and has no caffeine. It costs more and you don’t get the buzz, but it’s drinkable.
These sweeteners taste very artificial to me, but not like soap. Still, I have found only one drink where the sweeteners aren’t off putting.
Fentimans had amazing sodas that were perfect as mixers. Now they overpower every other taste with the sweetener taste. It is a shame.
Too many companies go with artificial sweeteners and the selection of palatable soft drinks should be documented in the Red List.
Wow. I’d totally stop drinking soda. Further sugar is bad for you, but the weird shit the artificial aweetners do to your satiation reflex is, I think, arguably worse.
Taxes apply any time money changes hands. The existence of taxes is not the thing that should cause revolution. The hoarding of wealth by the wealthy is. They don’t get taxed because their money doesn’t change hands, and for many other reasons, not least of which is corruption and bribery.
I thought the wealthy (top 1%) paid 40% of all collected taxes in the US?
Taxes in USA are progressive, meaning the higher your income, the higher your taxes. The 1%, controlling 30% of USA’s wealth, should pay much more than 40%, the 99% shouldn’t pay 60% of taxes because their income is much lower on average.
How much more
99.999%
I don’t know, 60%? 80%? 91.645%? What a random question, what is your point?
I’m not making a point just asking what you think lmao. I’m not your enemy and I’m not trying to debate you.
In the 40s it was as much as 90%, and that caused the boom in the 50s
90% tax on the top 1%?
You don’t really tax individuals, you tax the wealth regardless of who owns it. So 90% tax on unused wealth, the ‘hoarded’ excess of wealth that no individual needs and which could benefit others. Progressive taxation means you tax someone’s wealth less up to a certain point, let’s say 10 million, and you tax more on any wealth above that.
90% is probably still low, it should really be at whatever percentage wealth can’t accumulate.
And the fact that 40% of all taxes represents less than 20% of their income should tell you how much money they’re really holding onto.
Weird
Its income tax, right? They get money from ownership, dividenda from investments and stuff like that, not paychecks, not income. None of that is taxed at a reasonable rate, so they don’t get taxed on that.
Guess why
You Americans really need to start learning how taxes work, well, are supposed to work. In Europe taxes are higher and we’re happy for it because we understand how tondo that part and what younger back for it, right.
No
The obvious answer is to only drink whiskey
I got some bad news about liquor tax.
No tax if ya make it yerself
I used to make hard cider. It’s a lot of fun.
Instructions unclear. I tried driving to work and I ended up killing a family of 6
Sounds like the marketing department for energy drinks is your real problem, not the govt.
genuinely disheartened when i went to buy a Monster and it got soda taxed </3 the Ultras don’t even have any sugar…
