Twitch continues to deteriorate as a platform because what do you mean I can’t TAB OUT TO MY SECOND MONITOR DURING THE AD BREAK

I NEED TO FOCUS THE TAB AND THE WINDOW FOR THE AD TO PLAY???

Since it’s private, Elon could be content with a steady (adjusted for inflation) annual profit, which would allow him to make decisions that are good for the long-term health of the company.

        He just sucks.

If it were public, he wouldn’t even have the option to not suck.

The phrase “For a better experience” activates me like a sleeper cell to be highly alert to whatever product it came from and assume it’s trying to screw me out of my money, attention, privacy, or all three.

“Avoid minimizing or muting for a better experience” Wow, this is beyond nuts.

If i was a Twitch user, i’d dump this right now.

The best thing I ever installed was UBLOCK ORIGIN,the second best thing was Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Privacy Badger. I have not seen or been interupted by an AD in a decade

I tend to agree. We’ve seen a movement back to -

Sponsored: NordVPN, the most trusted VPN in all of Skyrim!

more insidious advertising practices. They render the Internet useless in the same ways that incessant pop ups did in the early 2000s.

Reminder that Sony has patented technology to force viewers into saying a certain phrase in order to continue past an advertisement. Sure, it sounds dystopian, but just look at how excited the little consumer is to enthusiastically shout the name of one of his favorite corporations!

Fingers crossed this is a patent intended to prevent others from ever stooping to such evil, but it’s not like Sony has been clean when it comes to this kind of shit.

If it would allow you to end the commercial early, it would kind of be genius. “Watch this 2 minute ad or say ‘I love McDonald’s’ to immediately continue watching” is something that definitely would work. It would get these phrases or slogans ingrained while providing a better viewing experience.

Don’t get me wrong, I would hate it as much as anyone any other lemmy user. However from a marketing perspective it’s pretty solid while a significant percentage of the viewership would not only participate, but laud it as a good solution to skip the forced commercials.

        It sounds like fun.

Then the next wave is that the feature length advert will play. You can see the shortened version by shouting I LOVE MCDONALDS. Or you can skip entirely by showing the Camera the New McFood Deluxe and eating it.

These motherfuckers do not know the meaning of the words “dystopian hellscape”. There is no such thing as too much, too far, too invasive, too insidious. There is only “so what’s next for our marketing department?”

Don’t worry, you’ll only be asked to sing your favorite Pepsi ad jingle. 20s if you can do it without mistakes and 90s otherwise.

Oh, and your audio+video recording will be uploaded to their servers for validation and they can do whatever they want with it.

Soon enough social apps will use your selfie cam to track your eyes. Ads will only play when your eyes are engaged and pause if you’re not looking at the screen. Oh boy.

Same with TVs, the built in camera will see who’s watching, and Netflix, etc, will stop streaming when it sees 5 people watching when your account is only set for 4. Either one person leaves the room or you upgrade to continue watching.

Samsung introduced this feature in the Galaxy S4 way back in like 2012 or so. Thankfully it must be stuck in patent hell so nobody gets it now. Good job everyone, we used the stones to destroy the stones.

It looked like Xbox One was threatening that with the Kinect needing to be connected and being able to sign in with your face. If someone was there who hadn’t paid full price for the game on their own account theyre shit out of luck.
