minus-squareorangeyouglad@lemmy.todaylinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up28·4 days agohow do you secure it in your roof without damaging shingles?
minus-squareLastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyzlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up18·3 days agohttps://safetyrailsource.com/products/nextgen-hitchclip With just a little pre-planning when the weather is ok, you can install some brackets or fall harness mounts under the shingles. Solar panel mounts would also work. There’s plenty of things designed to mount to the roof while still maintaining water proofing.

minus-squareLastYearsIrritant@sopuli.xyzlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up1·2 days agoNo, most things slide under a shingle so the water never touches the fasteners. Some things screw right through with sealant on top, but that’s not the best way to do it, cause sealant will break down over time.
minus-squarebase10@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkarrow-up1·1 day agoI agree with you that it is definitely not the best way, by far. However, of all the things I have seen installed on a roof, almost all of them have been installed this way. I think it also depends where you are and what kind of roof you have.
minus-squareHonoraryMancunian@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·4 days agoMaybe a series of ropes behind it that go over the peak and hook around a drainpipe?
minus-square4am@lemmy.ziplinkfedilinkarrow-up3arrow-down1·4 days agoDon’t hook anything to a vent stack and especially do not hook anything to an appliance exhaust. You are asking for problems. Best way to do this is with a Christmas tree stand, secured with ropes over the top of the peak and off to the sides. Don’t penetrate the shingles.
