Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the creepiest thing you've seen occur in a WalMart?English
3·4 days agoI worked in a suburban shopping mall back at the turn of the millennium. One of the big anchor stores shut down, and the space was taken by a Walmart. Over the coming months and years, one by one, the smaller shops in the mall began disappearing as they couldn’t compete; whatever that store sold, the Walmart had a cheaper and crappier version of it. Bigger and bigger stores began suffering and shutting down, and within a handful of years even the huge corporate department stores were flagging.
The mall itself died completely within the next twenty years. However much of the responsibility Walmart itself bears for that is uncertain, but it’s certainly some.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's that video game boss you've never been able to beat, or took you the longest to beat?English
3·5 days agoI’ve been a player of the original era DOOM games since the start and am pretty good on PC with a mouse and keyboard, but I’ve always found the console ports so much more difficult for some reason. On other games I can swap platforms and control schemes just fine, but my brain just will not accept the combination of DOOM plus a console controller.

31·5 days agoThat version of the 8-bit Ghostbusters game ending (just get past Stay Puft and your guys automatically go up to the building’s roof, cross their streams, and complete the game) is so much more merciful than the versions which added on extremely bullshit bullet-hell boss battles with Gozer afterward.

3·5 days agoHoly crap, you just triggered traumatic memories I’d been successfully repressing for generations! That game. That whole fucking game, but especially the ending.
I remember using the ability to smack Roger Rabbit around to take out so many frustrations. That was a good feature.

3·5 days agoExtra enraging because of the many versions of that 8-bit Ghostbusters game, which ranged widely from awful to fine, the Master System version was probably the all-around best iteration in terms of graphics and general gameplay. However, other versions had much easier endings.

I’m sure @queerdo@feddit.online is totally a dear and not at all a bore.
Tell people you don’t like that there’s a pool on the roof, then when they head up all excited to swim you lock the window behind them.

It’s intentional. They muscle out all the other, better options.
