That’s what I was thinking too when I saw his hand out like that. His speech has changed too. Would expect it’s even worse now.
All of this would be sad for some random old man. Shit sucks getting old and having your body fall apart. But Trump can rot it hell where he belongs. Hope they keep him alive for as long as possible so he can suffer some.
What’s the purpose? Like, in a positive sense. I just see this as more liberal distraction from actual material change. Making people feel like there is a means of resistance within the current system that has become overcome by fascist.
It gives people the false sense of “something being done”. When it gives us no more progress than a new episode of South Park.
I think this is almost a “tongue in cheek” way of saying labor day. It’s less so a reflection on Target and more so reflection on what this holiday means to the average person.
They are so dissociated from class conflict. So alienated from their fellow workers (that are literally working on labor day) that no one really thinks of the blood that was spilled to bring them their current labor rights. Rights that have been dismantled for decades as they have been distracted by both political parties to ignore their class solidarity.
I’m less disappointed in Target than I am in what this type of sign says of the class consciousness in this country.
I too am purchasing all my household items at Ben & Jerry’s.
Seriously though. There isn’t really a way to “boycott” all of these companies that have links to fascist. The fascist are doing the will of the capitalist/ruling class.
I can understand the sentiment. I stopped buying Coke products because of BDS. It was a major thing I use to purchase and once it was on the list I stopped. But it’s not like Pepsi or Dr. Pepper are some beacon of anti-colonialism. It’s just something I can avoid doing; while giving me no delusion that “ethical consumption” exists.
I guess I don’t really disagree with boycotting Target. Maybe it’s your “Coca Cola”. I just wanted to vent my frustration with the uselessness of personal consumption boycotts.
I think all it does is make me/you feel like we are avoiding being associated with the system the fucks us over less than it does the rest of the world.
A system neither of us can avoid participation in.
I’ve gotten to this point too. One thing that frustrates me to no end is the liberal commentators I hear “pointing” to things. Admitting that fascist policies are taking over. Admitting we don’t have any rights anymore.
But none of them have the balls to actually say what the only means of resistance is now.
Hell, they don’t have to even say it directly. But they should be screaming about what DOESN’T work.
The time for non violent protests and voting are at an end in terms of their effectiveness. The purpose of non violent protests and supporting left wing candidates now is not hoping those will “bring us back”. We are not going back peacefully. The purpose of them is to bring about organization and class conciseness.
Maybe it’s what “libs” need to hear to try to get them out doing something. Maybe they aren’t ready for reality. But I just don’t think we can afford people thinking that the system that existed before can be restored. And it shouldn’t be restored. It’s the system that got us here.
It’s not confusing. It’s looking at the world through a lense of class struggle and Imperialist interest.
I literally never said individual politicians aren’t effected. But calling the US the “dog” of Israel is backwards. American capitalist interest are literally being enacted by our attack dog in the middle east.
If it helps you. Thinking of Israel as America’s 51st state and APAIC as it’s largest industries lobbying group would be closer to what the material relationship is. It’s largest industry is just Americas settler colonialist project in the middle east.
By evidence of my other comments to this post I enjoy mocking Israel. That being said; Israel is an extension of US interests. We often confuse the interest of the working class of the US as being “the US”.
The “dogs” of the US for Israel are not the the capitalist class of the US. Their interests very much align with those of the Zionist state.
The material interests of the citizens of the imperial core are of no interest to an Imperialist state with no working class movement to resist it.
My point being. Israel is not the cause of the degrading conditions of the US. It is a result of the strong bourgeois dictatorship we live under.
It’s important to understand the material reasons for why our country keeps supporting a genocidal project. Especially, as we see a shift in the “scapegoat” move from immigrants and Muslims to include other groups as well. It’s important to know that there is no “scapegoat” (duh that’s the meaning of the term but I digress). The US is doing exactly what it’s ruling class sees as the best for its material interests.
So, do not fool yourself into thinking the empire of the US is making a good or moral decision even if it does distance itself from Israel in its words. Israel IS the US. They are not different from one another. There is no puppet master controlling US policians. The material interest of the ruling class align with supporting the Zionist project that is an extension of US imperialism.
ADL or APAIC. These are just methods for US capitalist to fund their interests. These organizations aren’t “controlling” the US. They are their to ensure the interest of this colonial project are met.
The breed was promised to them over 9000 years ago by the prophet Vegeta. You’re really letting your antisemitism show.
Am I the only one that does not enjoy satire anymore? Or, really, I think we’ve hit a point where the satire isn’t really possible. Not to the degree it was before. It’s just pointing at things. It’s not creative or interesting.
Hear me out. Satire is funny because it takes the reasoning and narrative of something to a logical extreme. It exposes the hypocrisy while keeping the fundamental parts of something following the same reasoning or path. It makes you laugh because you’re thinking “how ridiculous” and at the same time thinking “wait that is actually following reason”. It’s a fundamental part of comedy “the contradiction” your brain feels in that scenario.
You can’t satirize modern American politics. Take South Park for example. Most of the “satire” in it is literally just pointing to things that are actually happening. Do they do it in a “silly” way? Yeah. Add some small penis jokes and some farts. But the subject they are trying to cover is truly stranger than fiction. There is no “contradiction” because she really did shoot her dog. ICE really is hiring any person with a pulse.
Sorry. A bit of a rant. And explaining “what is funny” is never going to be universal. But when I watched South Park it just made me annoyed. Like, we’ve hit the “logical conclusion” and there is no more contradiction with it to what we think is possible. We’re just laughing to not have to face reality as much. Which is the opposite of what satire is supposed to do. Satire is supposed to make you think and face the contradictions you didn’t think about. I feel like whatever this is, is making people laugh so they don’t have to think about what’s actually happening.
Trans people are either writing kernel code or playing hearts of iron 4. Nothing else is allowed.
Landlord said to me “property tax has gone up. This is my only form of income. Will need to increase rent”
Told him “yeah, everything has gone up and my paycheck is still the same”.
Like, these types of relationships are so parasitic. This is the “nice” mom and pop style landlord too that every liberal seems to want to give a pass too.
Sure, are they less bad than the big corporate faceless landlords? Yes. But the entire relationship is the problem.
They get to justify forcing me out of my home because the value of the house that they own WENT UP.
That’s why their property tax is more. They literally own something that is more valuable and making it further impossible for me to ever buy a place of my own.
Ok I don’t usually laugh at liberals shitting on Trump (mostly because theyre not usually funny and fail at critizing him well) but this is actually funny.
