  • (1) My comment wasn’t specifically about the person in the article.

    (2) I’m using “iPad kid” in the colloquial sense. It’s not literally about when the iPad was released. There are plenty of Internet based media consumption products that were portable long before 2010.

It’s to mean growing up in the age of a media environment that profits specifically on keeping a child’s attention and parents that are exhausted from overwork using it as a means of calming them.

This has been true for all kids to some extent since the birth year of 2000. It’s not all kids. It’s not all parents. It’s different levels of intensity and at different ages of development. But, my point is around the general trend of more young adults that are experiencing less organic real world socialization.

It is the increased commodification of childhood. It is not unique to this generation but is growing significantly more intense. But, just as more of our adult lives are built into commodities (dating apps) so too are the lives of children. And one thing that is really easy to get from children is their addiction to watching media.

  • Since I’ve had a kid of my own I’m quickly come to realize that a lot of the “adults” I encounter literally just never learned how some basic lessons on how to act in a group. It’s become painfully obvious spending all day with a toddler and then seeing literally the same behavior in adults.

Like, my toddler has a lot of the same level of emotional skills as adults but just expresses them in a more extreme way.

Like, an 8 year old that wines and has a tantrum like a toddler is going to quickly learn that no other kids want to be around them. Did we lose this socializing part of growing up at some point? Do those kids just have other forms of socializing online so they never learn how to act in a real life group?

I’m sure this is true for any generation to a degree. But, I can’t help but think Ipad childhoods have created a generation of adults that never had to learn simple traits like sharing or working in a group. Instead of feeling bored and isolated for their bad behavior in a group. They have constant access to a stimulant while isolated.

A lot of these “adults” find their social connections through other “adults” that also just act shitty to other people. There only way of finding community is finding others that are also garbage hateful people.

I really think we need “reeducation camps” for these adults. Like, I don’t know what else to do with people like the ones in the article. These aren’t people that can function in a healthy society. The issue is that they are functioning perfectly well from their perspective. And I think that is really a testament to how incredibly sick and broken our society is.

  • These are just the legal bribes. The comfy jobs in the industry waiting for them after they are good little soldiers of capital are another form.

Not to mention these politicians are just holding assets in industries that will profit for the policies they will pass. Directly or indirectly.

SuperPAC funding is only a drop in the bucket.

  • As a engineer and parent that got a lot of these awful $SCIENCE subject related books as gifts. I’m sure you can find a similar one.

But I have yet to get one that wasn’t just a horribly written kids book. Like, I use to think writing a kids book was a joke.

It’s extremely difficult to find books that are eye catching enough for a child, interesting enough for a parent to WANT to read, and has memorable parts so the kid WANTS to read it.

The $SCIENCE topic books for kids are all just boring art, almost all the pages either look the same (when they try to tell an actual story) OR they are like reading a dictionary where no page is actually related.

None of them are filled with puns for parents either. I don’t get it. That’s low hanging fruit.

Maybe I’ve gotten bad ones. But holy shit. Give a Doctor Seuss book to me any day.

If you want to buy a $SCIENCE related joke gift to one of your friends. Give the kid a T-shirt. The books are awful.

  • The issue I have with it is not so much the “giving them money” but how for some reason there are liberals upset that the war is ending and we didn’t benefit from it.

Like, yes, I agree it’s silly to call it “giving them money” but they did that to Obama for years. I don’t really care if the liberals jump on the same language to make Trump look stupid. Its stupid but Republicans were stupid first. Accuracy vs. Propaganda and sometimes you gotta just throw shit back.

But, a lot of these same liberals are literally war mongering. If Trump believes he is “a great deal maker” but ends the war. I’m ok with that. I don’t give a fuck how it ends as long as we stop killing people. Way too much coming from liberals that are more concerned with Trump looking weak than actually ending the war.

  • There is a difference between cognitive decline and just being a racist piece of shit.

“Beat medicaid” was cognitive decline. That wasn’t a misspeak. His brain was mash potatoes that entire debate. That was just the funniest one. The really pathetic “sad slow confused old man” one’s aren’t as memorable.

Trump saying “eating cats and dogs” is literally just him being a racist piece of shit. That wasn’t cognitive decline. Unless you think JD vance is showing old age cognitive decline.

Having said all that. They are both racist old white men with signs of dementia. The counter example you gave is just not a good example for Trump.

  • This title reminds me of a recent conversation I had. I said Trump has (unintentionally) done more to fight climate change than any other president in history. So many countries have stopped oil dependent infrastructure projects and shifted to nuclear, wind, or solar projects just since he invaded Iran.

If we can avoid WW3 the world might actually benefit from this presidency. Americans are fucked. But, we deserve it, and if we can figure out our shit without a civil war I hope you all go easy on us and help us fix a parasite in our society that’s been allowed to live with us since our first civil war.

We might need some reeducation camps. All I’m saying.

  • To clarify what I think you are saying. You don’t do an “armed protest” by just doing the same thing you’d do at a normal protest + guns.

This is a recipe for chaos and literally just a blank check to the CIA and military to slaughter you before anything is achieved.

Armed protest are not a thing. At least not for the left. When the right brings guns to a protest they are doing it to protect state power. That is allowed.

Arming yourselves and taking actual strategic objectives, having sustainable and multiple routes for resources, and obtainable demands/goals are what are required. You don’t just give a gun to the “no Kings” libs and a expect that to happen or go well for the few that actually join.

The revolution doesn’t happen by a bunch of people storming the capital or white house as the first event. That’s Hollywood shit and it’s why the dumb hogs did it and were allowed to do it.

The revolution ends there. It starts with strategic objectives. Taking over power, transportation, and communication infrastructure, taking over state police and other resources.

The Joes in the military will bomb the capital and everyone in it before they start defending a leftist revolution.

You replied to my edit with a fantasy. So, you gave a hope of some material outcome and didn’t explain at all how you jump to that. That magically the people will move to PSL by attacks on an anti Zionist.

I’m in PSL mate. You know what most people think about him? “I don’t live in Maine. But if I did I’d vote for him over a Zionist” and then we move on and keep organizing for a protest or immigration rights training.

You know what gets most people to join PSL? It’s not trying to be “more left than thou”. It’s some dude in DSA that joined DSA because they liked Bernie Sanders and Mamdani, joined DSA, and then met PSL people at protests. That’s the normal way people find us.

The more people joining DSA, voting for antizionist, and getting involved because they see momentum. That’s how we recruit.

PSL. We are not the viable alternative to Platner. We don’t run in political races to win. We essentially use them as an advertising campaign and nothing more.

When the internet lefties spend all their time attacking an anti Zionist socdem the only material outcome of that is support for the next viable alternative to the socdem. And that, right now, is a Zionist. That’s where they go to. To the liberal Zionist that makes them feel comfortable. They don’t magically join PSL when they see some cringe post about Platner.

If you want to help PSL. Just shut the fuck up about Platner already. He’s as good as elected at this point. If he sucks and betrays his voters - cool, we don’t associate with him anyway. We don’t like him - but we’ll sure as fuck use him to recruit and spread agit-prop. Voting isn’t picking a partner in a relationship. Politicians are TOOLS for revolution - we will use them anyway we can. Stop attributing moral arguments to them. Because it’s making you imagine a fantasy as your “material outcome”.
