I get the grievance, but we can clarify a rule without mocking our belittling people. People are a lot more receptive when you start from a respectful place.

If you’re going to run Home Assistant OS you’d be able to run anything that can run in docker. Some things are available to install directly inside the Home Assistant apps system, otherwise you can install portainer and run any docker capable software.

Adding to this, I recommend a used mini PC. There’s lots of cheap used office hardware out there on eBay that is more powerful, more serviceable, and more flexible than the hardware they sell or a raspberry pi.

That reference was a bit strained.

I would say it’s pretty likely that we have made some serious mistakes but also probably not possible.

There’s a lot of copium in this thread. Joke is I’ve been pretty hardcore Android since day one, I have never owned an iPhone. I am just capable of some level of objectivity. Shit, there’s podcasts out there from early in the Android v iOS days where I was the token Android guy defending it as the IBM compatible equivalent of its day. Telling these hard core iPhone guys that Apple would lose the market share fight worldwide because of the closed nature, the same way they lost it on the desktop. But yeah, there’s people here denouncing me as an Apple fanboy because I was capable of complimenting a strength it has.

That’s only a little higher than the rate I have heard. There’s a reason it’s normal practice not to announce a pregnancy until it reaches a certain point. Miscarriages are common in the early weeks of a pregnancy.

Haha, very true. Loyalty over competency.

Having it and it working as well are two different things. historically Apple has been ahead in security that can slow down or stop law enforcement. And before before you jump to the same conclusions as someone else, I never have owned an iPhone, nor wanted to.

You know, I have not kept up. Things may have improved recently. But historically there’s always been flaws in the security.

I’m not an iPhone user. I don’t own an Apple anything and really despise them as a company. Stop making stupid assumptions.

Deicer shown in the app doesn’t require a signup or that you install an app. They seem to have just compromised the notifications to scare people.

And the FBI can’t get in? I doubt that. It has always been notoriously easy for law enforcement to get in to Android phones.

I’m talking about daily use. I have a good friend, we’ve both been computer nerds since The Apple II era, we both used to put custom roms on our android phones, we’re avid self hosters, etc… He recently switched to Graphene and wants to switch back to something that’s less of a pain. His complaints are pretty much the same as reasons I haven’t switched. I warned him it would be an adjustment.

I want a phone, not a hobby.

There should be a nearly identical menu to the Windows version that lets you select or deselect folders.
Click on your account > settings. And then it will show the list of folders available to sync.

Best advertisement I’ve heard for an iPhone ever. Now that Android moving to the same walled garden business model…

I see this as something that makes the services more affordable. A municipality might even be able to deploy them for seniors if they are efficient enough.
It matters more on peertube, but also less.
I’ll start with why it matters less. You can interact with peertube via mastodon. You can subscribe to channels and leave comments on videos with those accounts. But, you will not be able to login to a sever via the peertube app. And to be honest, you’re not missing much there.
Why it matters more if you genuinely want a peertube server account…
Most peertube servers are accepting only accounts that are going to generate content. So if you aren’t planning to post videos you have to find a server with open sign-ups. There are also peertube servers that do not federate.
If you do want to post videos it matters in many ways. Does the server want the content you will be posting? Many peertube instances are themed towards specific genres or topics. Does the instance have upload limits? Are you required to contribute to server costs? Etc…
Essentially, peertube requires a lot more research before signing up. There are a lot of caveats. It’s also a horrible place for discoverability and the app integration is janky at best. The only thing it really shares in common with Youtube is that you can watch videos on it.
Edit: bonus catch, does your server stay updated so you can use it with the peertube app?
