Very cool way to address depression, but I am getting a “me and the wife noticed you from across the bar” kinda vibe off this bird ngl

Yeah, bud. The stupidest. Which in a way makes us the best, even if it’s the best at being the worst. Kinda bittersweet, that. I mean…not really, but kinda.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Lemmy users who created a profile with an actual picture of yourself (and maybe even use your real name), why did you decide to do that?
3·13 days ago100% this. Leaving your door unlocked does not assure that you will be attacked or robbed in the night, but it certainly makes it easier for anyone that would like to do that stuff. And there are certainly people out there who would like to do those things and much, much worse, just looking for the right target or oppurtunity to indulge.
Why make it easy for them? Dahmer and Gein both thrived on people giving them the benefit of the doubt. They used the normalcy bias of civil society to their advantage and they are far from the only people willing to take advantage of the naive and the unguarded. If you dont have to roll the die, then why throw em at all? Lock your door not because someone is for sure coming tonight, but because someone could come on any given night, right?
Yep. NPR is often on while I’m in the car, but I’ve never gone seeking it out online except for specific shows (in podcast form) which do not necessitate going directly to their site. I think its pretty typical for people to interact with it purely as news/entertainment radio.
Being able to detect or even conjure humor in places that others can not would imply a stronger sense for it than average tho.
Consider how being more able than most to acutely identify or follow the source of a scent is generally seen as a having a stronger sense of smell than average. I dont see why the same wouldn’t apply here.
In my own opinion, ya for sure. Many others may not agree lol
It is difficult for me take anything but the most dire things without a little goofiness. And even when things are a bit too real, I am often the one still floating on hope and cracking (admittedly very stupid) jokes.
Not sure how I’d define a good sense of humor tho tbh. A willingness to laugh at yourself definitely counts for something. Knowing better than to punch down while also meeting people on their level is a plus too. Being able to direct attention, something like a stage magician but with words, also plays a big part in the equation.
Ig a good sense of humor is one that takes into account other people (socially, emotionally, and practically (as in using how their presence affects the room) all at once) while also subverting expectation. Even better if the two are playing off each other. Crowd work is often considered cheap by standups, but it’s a great way to break down barriers and get a room onto the same page…when they know how to use that tool effectively, at least.
