When you use a cup, we use a deciliter-cup. I agree that cooking gives intuition on units. But who will buy a deciliter cup if no recipe uses deciliters?

cute_noker@feddit.dkto Technology@lemmy.world•Taliban leader bans Wi-Fi in an Afghan province to 'prevent immorality'English1·4 days agoAt this point it seems hard to ban the internet. But especially impossible for the backwards Taliban that have lived in caves for the last 40 years.
I doubt that they know that they just started a whack-a-mole
How would you convert to e.g nautical miles?
How do you do weight measurements? I noticed a lot of Americans use grams
Mine, but I didn’t cut my toenails, so today’s its 1/26th foot longer that the normal foot.
If Americans don’t stop the foot thing soon I will bring back the havoc and destruction of using local measure!!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_units_of_measurement
No I will not define it. I will just tell you I ran 2/3 mile and that I am prussian, now you have to look it up, convert it to meters, convert that back to your mile and then you know what I am talking about.
Btw this mile is way easier to remember because a mile is 24000 feet.
cute_noker@feddit.dkto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Tech CEOs keep praising TrumpEnglish3·13 days agoMonopolies are very expensive for the society.
I am not very skilled in economics but i feel like software scales really well, so the supply costs should be more flat. And maybe even negative. Meaning that the producer surplus will actually be a lot larger than the heuristic example here. Meaning that Gates has robbed us even more.
Is that how Americans make screenshot?
It auto-saves every now and again. Just exit.
cute_noker@feddit.dkto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think of the future of the Internet? Will the "Splinternet" become reality for most of the world?32·16 days agoWhy not call it decentralization? Because that sounds like an actual good thing.

It sounds good on the surface.
My biggest issue with this :
are they going to make cryptography illegal? If not then they are not going to get anywhere. Will they make FOSS illegal? Device ownership? Math?
Who is going to do the surveillance? The Yankees? Russians? Chinese? It is a free economy so basically a gigantic security hole.
If someone actually knows the answers please help me understand how these issues are resolved.
