Wow, interesting stuff. Huge thanks for the tip off about CoMaps.

It happens for me when I’m offline and the stupid Google Maps downloads didn’t work. I don’t even bother with downloading Google Maps any more, I just use CoMaps instead.

I’ll check it out. Any links to articles on the shady behavior?
Edit: CoMaps is like Organic Maps but better, regardless of the development practices, neato.

Organic Maps is so fucking good, I keep so much of it downloaded as a backup for when I’m offline, because it just works. That said, I still use Google maps due to the reviews of businesses and traffic data when navigating normally, but it’s good to know a great alternative is out there.

The issue isn’t that the fridge has a screen. The issue is that the screen real-estate is owned by the manufacturer, not you.

There’s a version of every device that doesn’t phone home. I switched to HomeAssistant a couple years ago now, and I think all of my stuff is finally local as of a few months ago, including my robot vacuum.

You can have the best of both worlds. There’s a lot of smart home stuff that isn’t owned by a corporation. For vacuums, Valetudo is amazing and fun to set up, if not a little nerve wracking risking bricking your expensive appliance.

I actually only go for the 400Mbps down plan, and it’s 40Mbps up across all of their plans, including the 1.2Tbps plan. I believe it’s some outdated hardware limitation of cable or something, at least that’s what I’ve heard.

I’m so tired of my 40Mbps upload speeds. Why can I get 1.2Tbps down, but only 40Mbps up? It’s crazy.

This has to be ragebait.

Probably not. It’s the same issue as Windows File Explorer not showing extensions by default. Asinine.

I mean, not really. You can apply for copyright on your content that has been posted to YouTube. If you don’t like how YouTube is distributing your content, applying AI filters to it or whatever, you can take it down. If you want to upload your content somewhere else, you can. You own your content, YouTube just distributes it how they see fit.

This guy, Jake, used to work at LTT/LMG, and has recently started his own channel. I do hope he finds a new groove, as I preferred his presentation style while he was at LTT. He seems to have adopted a “YouTuber” way of presenting - overexaggerating things, and being often overly impressed. Even seeing him on Zip Tie Tuning (a couple of other former LMG people’s new channel), he seemed to act more like I remembered him on LTT. Like I said, I just hope he finds a groove.
I also was super not aware how much he was into Apple products, which is weird for a tech enthusiast.
Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m not sure what this post has to do with memory, they’re asking about storage.

That’s hilarious

You forgot the step where you ignore step 2 and use Firefox.

I really wish he’d changed the title to something like “Bootleg DVDs Are Cheapened In a Weird Way” or something to make it more obvious that this was the case. I had no idea that this was what had happened (though I had wondered while watching the video) until I saw a thread about the video.
I’m planning to build another NAS, then pool both NASs together to make one big NAS, as I already simply use mergerfs and snapraid, so it’ll be cake to mount NAS 2 to NAS 1, then add it to the mergerfs pool. That probably won’t happen for a bit longer. I’m currently at 78TB with a max capacity of 256TB, and generating only about 1-2TB per month.
