Technology@lemmy.world•Students Boo Commencement Speaker After She Calls AI the ‘Next Industrial Revolution’English
2·24 hours agoWithout the industrial revolution I wouldn’t even exist; setting aside the butterfly effect of my parents never having met because they’re from different parts of the country for a moment I owe my existence to modern medicine, which would not exist without industrialization.
in favor but only if you primarily, ahem, “help” billionaire neighborhoods.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts on internet trolling
6·2 days agoTrolling is a art. Trolling should be done softly, and should leave plausible deniability until and unless you get to a point where blowing your cover maximizes lulz. Trolling should split the room into roughly the following groups: 85% bewildered bystanders, 10% angry, and 5% who see what you’re doing and either leave you alone or join in. Those numbers are fluid but the point holds that in an ideal situation the majority of people are either too confused to say anything or are on your side.
As I’ve grown up (read: I am not a thirteen year old boy anymore) I’ve started to realize that beyond being mean-spirited bigotry is just not very lulzy. In general good trolling shines a light on how someone who is being loud about their very strong and very wrong opinions online is a complete moron. Annoying the fuck out of hate groups is also acceptable.
Edit: there’s also just being weird and fucking with people by way of a harmless prank
In conclusion trolling is a land of contrasts.
I gotta say I do miss having a president that could come out and give like an 8th grade level of explanation for shit. Not just “oh uhhh damn thats… no its fine probably”
Yeah I’m pretty sure the bible says to pass judgment upon your sister and refuse to patronize her business if she believes differently from you. Jesus famously refused to spend any time at all woth people who weren’t holy enough, thats why he got along with the Pharisees so well.
You realize you’re supposed to think Dante’s an asshole in that scene right? Like Kevin Smith literally gets in front of the camera and tells him he’s taking Veronica for granted. Dante is a whiny hypocrite who deserves to learn a painful lesson. That is the entire point of the movie. There are a lot of criticisms you can level at Clerks but celebrating slut shaming ain’t one of them.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI ‘accent masking’ at overseas call centres sparks union backlash in CanadaEnglish
7·6 days agoI can think of a couple
- expectation management: sometimes call volume is genuinely high, and if you set a floor at say 10 minutes it only feels like a 5 minute difference if the caller’s actual wait time is 15
- engineering downtime to allow agents time to complete paperwork or catch up on emails
- make us all so annoyed with the process of waiting in line we welcome AI agents as liberators

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I was just looking for memes, I'll...just...
4·10 days agoAll I can say is that feminism is not a monolith. It is an incredibly fragmented ideology. There is only one thing you could honestly say that every feminist in the world 100% agrees on, and that is that sexism is bad.
I have read precisely one book about feminism, and that book is The Will to Change by bell hooks. She is maybe the most influential feminist of the 21st century. In the book she writes that hating men is bad and that it hurts the movement. She also had an incredibly simple definition of feminism: sexism is bad and we should stop it. I wonder why she is so popular.
Anyway, yeah, all that shit in your links is awful. Its also incredibly fucking fringe, and the feminist circles you’re referring to are not representative of the broader feminist movement. Your take here is nuclear, as in it’s radioactive. You couldn’t be worse at attacking feminism dude.
Anyway this conversation isn’t going anywhere so imma head out

51·10 days agoI wouldn’t say the feminists I know believe any of that stuff. Most of them are focused on poverty and rape and how those things affect women.
Toes deserve fair compensation but I wish they’d just price it into the bill.

Most of them are probably closer to novellas by word count, that’s a good point.
