It is official; Netcraft now confirms: Linux is dying

One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Linux community when IDC confirmed that Linux market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming close on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that Linux has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we’ve known all along. Linux is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.

You don’t need to be a Kreskin to predict Linux’ future. The hand writing is on the wall: Linux faces a bleak future. In fact there won’t be any future at all for Linux because Linux is dying. Things are looking very bad for Linux. As many of us are already aware, Linux continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.

                Semantics, semantics.

If you manage to run TempleOS on the bare metal, your CPU and fans will be stuck at 100% until you turn it off or your CPU overheats.

Run it in a VM and you won’t have that problem.

You can argue that anything above Ring -3 is virtual, but “if I do this my CPU’s going to die” is a pretty reasonable dividing line between “technically” and “actually”.

Read again. Not “runs destiny” (as in the game) but “runs your destiny” (emphasis mine). It’s a joke about faith controlling your fate.

  • Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
  • Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like “every user of thing”.
  • Don’t get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of “peasantry” to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community – if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don’t come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can’t quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.

  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
