    The crazy part of the article is really how it is legal that an employee of a hotel chain has to pay for entirely work related car trips with his private money, at least in substantial parts.

      Utterly preposterous. Using personal vehicle for work is going to lose you money in any case. Uber is a particularly egregious example. The employer should be providing a company truck especially because not only is he travelling (so IRS mileage applies) but he’s hauling for them (so insurance company was advised of the business use, right? Licensing?) for free. It’s huge wear and tear that mileage rates don’t cover.
