Of course. Google suckles the kings teet. They donated to his inauguration fund and the stupid fucking ballroom… they thought he’d never ask for the invasion of our privacy and they can’t wait!
Apple generally makes more of a show of opposing the government. They traditionally will file court suits challenging stuff. Not to say they don’t fold, just that they make a show of resisting, as they should it’s dumb of google to fold, and they only are because they don’t have enough competition, and have with other companies captured governments and regulators and courts.
And it doesn’t matter who the king is; it just happens to be Trump now. They gave up Sensor Vault data to help convict Trump’s January 6 insurrectionists during the previous administration, and they’ll do whatever the next regime wants too.
Agreed, this can be read both ways. It just goes to show that companies don’t give a shit about right or wrong, legal or illegal, and they’ll willingly collaborate with democratic institutions and oppressive regimes alike as long as it suits their bottom line.
Companies have always complied with legal warrants. They can challenge them, but they literally cannot refuse. Thats why companies need to actually collect less data on their customers, or protect it with e2e encryption.
