  • Multi monitor setups arent bad but in my experience they are usually cludged together abominations with at minimum two desks in active use. Mine for example is consistent of a HP pavilion from around 02 if I had to make a guess, a HP monitor from 17, and then my 5 plus year old Asus monitor. My desks setup is an L desk plus a random corner desk for the CRT and the WW2 era speakers I have that I still need wires for.

Anyone know where I can get wires and an amp for an antique pair of speakers? They use a positive and negative similar to what old car speakers have, not particularly picky just want to test them ideally using an aux input.

  • The reason the Romans were so weirdly stingy when it came to books is because they were a bitch to make and expensive as hell so unless it happened to be in a library you had to find someone with a specific book in their collection. It wouldn’t be until the early medieval period when scriptoriums started to appear that you see large numbers of books being reproduced for relatively cheaply.

Oh also if a book wasn’t well liked or just wasn’t copied frequently then it had a pretty good chance of being lost. This is how the works on the Etruscans by Augustus was lost, note it was multiple volumes yet I’m pretty sure we have none, from what citations still exist is seems to have been a proper historical and anthropological work.

  • That’s actually exactly how the upper workings of cults of personality tend to work. You get a crop of lieutenants or whatever you want to call them who rise up and either expand their power or gain power via the leader, often times solidifying their own sub group under the leader. They can’t do anything against the leader since the others would rip them apart and they can’t go after the others without the leaders permission for basically the same reason. Once the leader is removed for one reason or another they tend to go after each other to obtain the leaders power and to further expand their own.

Upside to the current powerful dipshits is that they are borderline braindead and basically all their powers are questionable at best for one reason or another. Within the administration for example Kegsbreath they are broadly disliked and frankly too stupid to maintain anything long term. Without it’s basically a house of cards held up by stocks and economic bubbles, if anything goes wrong faster enough they both will collapse.

And here’s the thing, there are so many fucking landmines sitting in the trail the US is going down that it’s not a matter of if but when something goes wrong and shatters their power. Something as simply as a botched natural disaster response could easily spiral into states severing communications with the feds, arguably it’s already started in lesser forms with states denying information to the feds. Hell the ongoing oil crises could in theory shitcan interstate trade and cave in the economy outright, let alone the stupid trade wars.

My point is long term and even short term depending on circumstances is basically a garunteed pyrrhic victory. They are clunching sand with a mangled hand.

  • Can’t make any garuntees but that tends to be how cults of personality disintegrate, it happened with the Soviets, Germany, and even Reagan to a degree. The question comes down to specifics and whether or not the power vacuum causes infighting. The only real group I’m somewhat certain about are those who are only Maga because of Trump and only because of Trump and were otherwise apolitical before Trump. That particular sub group is basically only in it for Trump and is why the Republicans have been suffering in the mid terms since 2018 give or take.

Honestly I suspect the post 2012 Republican election autopsy still holds true, it’s just that Trump fucked up the variables.

  • I beg to differ, mostly because I can almost garuntee a power struggle. None of those within or fuck even without the administration are set up as successors to the cult of personality. If Trump died tomorrow I would give it a month max before we see Vance trying to purge the cabinet and large sections of Maga going dorment. Especially with rising prices and AI data center backlash, it’s entirely possible the current Maga coalition fractures as they position themselves as anti-AI to try to coalesce power and since nobody cares for Vance nobody would give a damn about him being thrown under the bus.
