Weapons and surveillance testing. There’s plenty of money being made
Can you give some more examples? I’m interested

11·21 days agoI mean, aren’t they? In a moral, ethical, and social stance, don’t they share in the blame?
Well, we’d say 4 o clock… But that’s English too. Have considered how the rest of Europe says it?
16 hours is the “official”/military way to say it
They don’t actually believe in anything. They just feel like they’re winning when they force they’re views on others

2·30 days agoYou can literally train them on animal languages. They’re language models, their primary attribute is modeling a language
And they are very good at it

3·1 month agoOkay, let’s say you have a fuel injected car, but instead of using the 02 sensor to decide the fuel air mixture, it just squirts the same amount of gas every time.
The hardware might be able to achieve 400 hp, but the software means it only ever achieves 50 hp
It’s like that. The software drives the hardware. It doesn’t matter how good the hardware is, the software is the brain of the operation - if the software doesn’t know how to utilize the hardware properly, you’re going to have piss poor performance

Granted it does give weight to your argument, he wouldn’t have been arrested by the ICC until he was ousted, but it would’ve applied pressure

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think people will live to the year 2100?English
2·1 month agoProbably at least some of us… There’s a lot of us, and given a year and a few acres anyone with an almanac would have a shot
It’s likely it’ll be a lot more, and we just have a dark age

3·1 month agoWhat does that mean through? We already had an insane amount of soft power over Maduro. He was desperate to stay in power… So now what?
We basically just hit Venezuela with a stick and told them to behave

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The way my fuck-ass pharmacist makes up the remaining pills in my bastarding prescriptionEnglish
1·1 month agoSure, but the R&D is largely subsidized because it’s a common good. Pharmaceutical companies generally take over when it’s already a pretty safe bet… It could fall through during clinical trials, but they don’t pay for the massive R&D they did traditionally. Sometimes they even just buy the patent
There’s overhead, but the vast majority is just profiteering

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are the majority Venezuelans actually happy trump just stole their president?English
11·1 month agoThey’re scared. Of course they are.
Whether they hated Maduro or not, they’ve been forced into limbo
What happens next? No one fucking knows, no one has a plan, because Trump might come back for round 2 and decapitate the chain of succession or make an ultimatum
It must be terrifying. For all my brother’s and sister’s in Venezuela, stay strong, stay safe, and be ready to take advantage of opportunities

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Senate to vote next week to block Trump’s military action against VenezuelaEnglish
17·1 month agoWell they didn’t establish a new government there… That would take competence
Trump just stole the leader and his wife and declared the oil is “ours now”. No one knows what the fuck they means, but their VP took over control for now
I mean, hopefully to bring perspective, the water wars are happening now. People are fighting corporations who are draining the aquifers for alphalpha and such to send abroad, there are faucets running dry and everything
It’s not going to be mad Max… These problems still exist and are on track, but they way they present themselves is as a slow burning down of the infrastructure that our country is built upon
The people will remain. There will be hard times, we will have to come together to solve problems. We might have to relocate as areas become untenable
There will be unrest and disorder, but not mass murder. We just don’t have it in us without years of indoctrination and drug use
Why bother with the satire anymore? They’re not even pretending, Trump stood up there and just said “we want the oil” before transitioning into the one speech he makes over and over

21·1 month agoAh. Laws vary by state, mixing and matching manufacturers is illegal in my state, the manufacturer must be on the bottle along with a description. I’m less certain about the expiration date thing, but I believe here they require them all to come back to the same batch in case there’s an issue (including improper storage of the bottle or something)
I’ve been told this is how it works by a pharmacist when they were having trouble filling my rx, and we were talking about controlled substances in particular

Even living in a hotbed of Trump supporters, I don’t find that at all. They’re mostly heroically uniformed
Because propaganda works, and Clinton cut the protections of the press from capital acquisition
