Exactly. And that’s before adding in all the “source available” code that’s publicly available but not actually Free, let alone the leaked proprietary code that they’ve probably shoved into the training corpus willy-nilly, too.

If that were the case then they’d be demanding actual ID, not taking your word for it.

That’s such a cop-out. Low-level oppressors throughout history have just been “doing their jobs” too, but that doesn’t make them any less complicit.

Because so many people use it that it racks up tons of loyalty points.

Every woman I’ve worked with (in software engineering) has been excellent at her job, presumably because the ones who aren’t don’t last in the industry at all.

To be clear, I said I’d like to think all the output should be copyleft. I actually think that, since the training set is a hopeless mishmash of conflicting licenses, it’s just massive copyright infringement and can’t be used for any purpose at all. Part of me is surprised some judge hasn’t started ordering them to just straight-up delete the entire models yet.

…Hey, wait a minnit! That’s not a bright side at all!
(Personally, I’d like to think that the output of any LLM whose training data includes copyleft code ought to be required to be copyleft.)

Too bad permissive licensing instead of copyleft (even as flawed as GPLv2 is) is a deal-breaker.
If you keep blocking everybody who calls out your BS soon you won’t have anyone to talk to at all.
The bottom line is that the modern Republican party is truly conservative, in the official Burke and DeMaistre monarchist sense (although they euphemize it as “unitary executive” now), no matter how much you try to pretend they mean the word differently.
They weren’t an American political party referred to as Conservatives though.
And there still isn’t such a thing, so what’s your point? Political party name isn’t the same as ideology. Are you going to argue that the Nazis were “socialists” next, just because that’s what their name claimed?
maybe try not being so combative with presenting it in the future.
Maybe try to debate honestly instead of relying on fallacious semantic arguments and tone-policing.

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.” — George Bernard Shaw
I don’t mean to make light of the bigotry, but the fact that that fuckwad inflicted JavaScript upon the world is reason enough to hate him and avoid his shit by itself. He has a proven track record of incompetence and terrible design decisions.
No, that’s misinformation. The fathers of conservative thought, Edmund Burke and Joseph DeMaistre, were literally monarchists: the the only thing they want to “conserve” is hierarchy. The conservatives of today are the truest to their origins that they’ve been since the Confederacy.

I am very concerned at the level of moron in the AI field.
That part, at least, is nothing new. There are two types of people in tech: “computer geeks” who were programming before it was cool, and get-rich-quick assholes who don’t give a shit but just hop on the latest trend. I have absolutely zero doubt that, even if the former type were the ones who made the generative AI breakthroughs, the companies marketing it to the masses are flooded with the latter.

Too bad smoking kills you way too slowly to stop them from doing plenty of damage in the interim.
We need to suggest to them a quicker destructive habit. AI-designed wingsuits for BASE jumping, maybe?

I’d like to know water and electricity usage too, but frankly, I’d rather have a separate smart flow meter and current sensor.

David Attenborough butting in: “That’s when they should have realized it, but did not. A fatal mistake.”

Okay Mr. Moneybags, with a house so big you can’t just hear the ding from the other end.
(I’m just kidding; even in my small house it’s possible to miss it when the laundry closet door is closed.)
This reads like something a serial killer would say to his date.
