I think this is pretty key. If the topic ever does come up and OP will use that line, it might not go over so well. Showing disinterest in politics may be a good survival tactic in Russia, but in the West many people will understand it as not wanting to publicly admit your support of Putin.

When has that ever protected immigrants from attack/scrutiny?
A few times, I’d argue. Citizenship does come with protections you don’t have as an immigrant, like the state not being able to deport you or decide not to renew your visa.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else think Steam is going to close the hardware side of their business?
3·4 days agoYou can currently get a Lenovo Legion Go S Z2G 512GB for 570€. Slightly more powerful, with a higher resolution VRR screen and official SteamOS support for 200€ less . No touchpads or OLED, but still. It looks like Valve has a disadvantage in sourcing components compared to larger hardware manufacturers.
Still don’t think they’d give up their hardware though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would be your perfect (reusable) water bottle?
13·5 days agoMetal, no straw, 0.75L, vertical and made in Europe. My current water bottle already has these properties, but its cap is a critical weakness, as it tends to spray some drops of water everywhere when you open it. So I’d like one with a better designed cap.
Furries have actually been around for longer than the internet.
Identifying as a non-human animal is not really a furry thing. That would be a “Therian”, which can overlap with being a furry, but doesn’t have to.
Ultimately, I’d say whether someone is a furry or not comes down to the personal choice if you want to be identified as such.
It’s good, especially from the 2nd book onwards. Takes place in quite a unique fantasy world that’s based on bronze-age tribes rather than the usual pseudo-medieval society you get in fantasy.
I’ll check them out!
I haven’t read them yet, only seen the covers. I’m currently reading a book series with similar themes of people shifting into animals though, “Echoes of the Fall” by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Beskedet: Google bygger datacenter i Horndal
2·5 days agoThis is not the correct place to post that. It’s not a question and most people on this instance don’t speak Swedish.
I’ve liked Anthro characters since I was a child. Grew up watching cartoons like Redwall, Rescue Rangers, Ducktales etc. First stumbled upon some furry art as a teenager while “exploring the internet”, as one does. And I guess from that point it was obvious to me that I’m a furry. It’s definitely not exclusively a kink for me though, but a general interest. I just enjoy seeing those characters in pretty much any context. Throw some anthro characters in a video game and I’m at least twice as likely to buy it than if it were regular humans. It’s also a generally friendly and open-minded community to interact with.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts on people that say you need to have a filter?
8·22 days agoIs that really the point in that moment though? They didn’t invite you so you could teach them how to cook, but to spend time with you and have friendly conversations. Saying that would really only serve to ruin the day for them, and possibly for yourself as well depending on how they’ll react.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What software are you using for CAD/modeling?English
32·23 days agoFreeCAD. It’s janky, absolutely, but it’s quite powerful once you get used to it. Improved a lot with the latest major update as well.
I also tried OpenSCAD for a bit. As someone with a programming background, I really like the principle of how it works. But ultimately, I found it way too limiting.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to survive effectively and in the long term in the post-apocalypse?
11·24 days agoAs for the location, since after the collapse, hungry crowds will rob villages and farms that they can reach or know about, I will have to build a house from scratch somewhere a hundred kilometers from cities and civilization
I actually think places like villages are your best bet. An organized rural community of a few hundred people will be much better off than a single person or household living alone in the wilderness. You can share the work required and you’ll have a safety net in case anything goes wrong, like if you’ve been injured for example. You can also organize defence by putting up guards etc.
If I had a nickel every time a new user comes to asklemmy assuming it’s some kind of generative AI support forum… I’d probably have at least 10 nickels from those that I’ve seen? Which is honestly very strange. Do LLMs recommend Lemmy for that or something?
Anyway, it says it right there. Can’t declare the same variable twice, so delete or rename one of them.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Will Piefed ever be ported to Go language instead of Python?
22·26 days agoUnless there’s a concrete reason to do that, I don’t see why they would. Python isn’t outdated, it’s actively supported and one of the most widely used programming languages in the world. It has arguably never been more relevant than it is now, due to its use in ML development. Just because it’s technically older doesn’t mean that it’s worse. That’s just not how programming languages work.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an interesting etymology for a common term?
611·27 days agoI’ve always found it fun how in Germanic (and Romance) languages, we still honor the old gods when it comes to the days of the week. Like wednesday being “Wodan’s/Odin’s day” and thursday being “Thor’s day”. I wonder how many devout christians realize this.
I also think the etymology of the German word “Buchstaben” (letter, as in a,b,c) is pretty interesting. It literally means “beech rod” and goes back all the way to Germanic tribespeople carving runes into rods made from beechwood.
And surely that would be falsely labelled, right?
I’m pretty sure that was the joke, considering the final sentence.
Steam Deck OLED has been pretty great. Also the HTC Vive VR headset, back in 2016.

Subtitled, unless I watch it with family members who all prefer dubbed. I actually rewatched Frieren recently, this time with the German dub, and was surprised at how good it is (even if the German character/place names become even weirder in that version).
