Technology@lemmy.world•Cars are like horses: people will soon realise EVs are just better, claims VW bossEnglish
2·4 days agoI personally think we’ll eventually see swappable batteries but who knows. I also think that won’t happen for like 25 years from now or more but I think that’s a solution to the limitations of charging tech.
Who knows, for most people most of the time EV is a better choice. I know the way I normally use my car an EV would work fine as a replacement.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all develops. I do wish we focused less on cars and more on better infrastructure for moving people around. I think cars are just inherently inefficient but since our societal infrastructure is heavily centered around them I think they’re going to be around for awhile.
Yeah anyone that thinks making more money means they’ll end up with less money because of taxes is just wrong. It’s crazy how so many people are that naive that they want to actively handicap themselves.
Having said that, you know what does work like that, our welfare system. It is possible to hit a point where you work too much and get xyz benefits taken away and the monetary value of those is larger than what your raise was. In particular, childcare/food stamp benefits are a hard one to lose and childcare can be a lot of money. So, that’s a valid complaint but if you are not receiving government aid any raise you get at work is a benefit to you.

5·8 days agoIt’s a common philosophy practiced by everyone that says, “yeah, I probably shouldn’t mess with this, it is working fine right now, but … Maybe …”
Well, we profess to follow it at least.
Yeah I guess it also is culture. It’s mostly that sit down restaurants (and then fast food) got into an “arms race” over “value” which in this case value = bigger portion sizes for the same or less money than other places.
I just say capitalism as more shorthand for this kind of thing where there is some weird market forces at work, and half of that is just marketing and perceived “bang for buck” and trying to one up the other guy. Like I’m not even sure people actually want these giant portions shoveled into their obese gaping maws but it seems to be where we’ve arrived.
Capitalism is fucked Is the short answer
Trust me, I’m sure I’m on (a) list(s) and I appreciate your framing. Just saying that if you want the message to resonate with more folks I’d probably not say that.
Edit: This is my rough pass at rephrasing.
Are you a communist and a terrorist, as defined by the US Department of Justice?Ordoyou cede your voice to the party that is actively trying to make elections irrelevant? Are you standing for your Constitutional rights as a free person in pursuit of life, liberty and happiness? Or will you cede your voice to the party that is actively trying to make elections irrelevant?
I’d probably change the second to last line. Nobody really wants to be a terrorist.
But yeah I think November truly will decide the future of our country in a big way.
Damn, I have the exact opposite opinion on the show.
I think it’s clever and has some fun moments of subversion in the writing and the plots may be meandering but they all make sense inside the reality of the world the characters are in.
Then again I never interact with the fandom and I just watch it because I like the show and find it fun. Mid 30s dude here so take it for what it’s worth. Of course, with all the drugs, I might just have the mental maturity of a 13 year old by now so maybe that’s why I like it.

4·14 days agoI don’t even think it was in a rack. It sounds like it was just laying against the back seat, shell chambered with safety off, and the dog jumping around set it off.
Negligent as fuck. This person should not own firearms.

10·18 days agoWell it’s shitposting so I’d start with the presumption if it sounds fake there’s a really good chance it is.

2·18 days agoIt’s better than not having stock though. Same with having bonuses.
I get what you’re saying though and I’m not even gonna disagree. Just that it’d be good for people to have stock in the companies they work for. It definitely is not the same as owning the means of production.

8·18 days agoI kind of think blatantly violating the constitution is a good way to not get put on any ballots in the USA. Like the states board of elections would never go along with that. That’s silly talk.
Plenty of politicians that are deserving of the presidency exist aside from AOC.

2·20 days agoI don’t know if those details (casual racism and acceptance of same, both by otherwise redeemable characters and by the victims of it; fairly graphic representation of bodily harm) match the reality of the time
1900 Texas, yeah, it matches the reality of the time. We’re talking about a state that 40 years before that had voted overwhelmingly to secede from the Union and ousted their governor when he refused to join the Confederacy. We’re talking full on Jim Crow, segregation as law, redlining, employment gating, etc etc - it was very bad.
But yeah I mean I probably wouldn’t say a 5yo should be engaging with that content, but I could see a 10 year old maybe? It feels 6th grade level is about right for that?
Capitalism is the cause of those problems. Last I checked the people hoarding money in off shore accounts weren’t exactly keeping money circulation speed constant. Well, perhaps constantly zero in that case.
Why do we even need owners in the first place? We don’t need to be beholden to the borgeousie and have a class that owns the means of production and gets rich off the labor of others while all they have to do is spend their money and not do any work.
Like employee owned businesses can be a thing.
It’s not like we’d have to upend our whole society, just change how employees are compensated, give them some equity in the company they work for and bring up individual incomes. Also tax the ever loving fuck out of profits (or revenue it’s arguable which is better) after a certain threshold so the only way to get more money is to reinvest and grow the business. Same with individual wealth taxes.
Nobody needs to be a billionaire. Companies don’t need to constantly push their profit up quarter after quarter. We don’t need to be beholden to the shareholders just because they have a bunch of money and own stock, we should be the shareholders ourselves.

They look like frames for either a shell of something or potentially as forms for concrete pouring (doubt that though).
So they probably go together to make the skeleton of some kind of shelter or vehicle.
